Welcome to luther burbank middle school!!
We are so glad that you are here (well, almost here...)!!
These are a few of the many questions that incoming 6th graders have about band and orchestra in middle school. Please feel free to contact Ms. Buresch if you have any further questions!
FAQ for incoming 6th grade
Do I bring my instrument every day?
Yes. Unlike elementary school we have class every day. However we do not start playing until the second week of school.
DO NOT BRING INSTRUMENTS ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
Where do I keep my instrument?
At LBMS we have lockers and instrument racks for students to use. Students will be asigned these during the first few times that the ensemble meets. Instruments do not have to go home every night. Students are expected to maintain a regular outside of school practice schedule.
Where do I keep my music?
Each student will need a binder at the beginning of the school year to put their music and warm up sheets in. It will be kept in either the students locker or music slot assigned to each student for the school year. The music slots act as kind of a mailbox for students to receive music and papers.
Can I play more than one instrument in band?
During band class it is very difficult to go back and forth between instruments and is discouraged. It is okay for students to play one instrument in ensemble and another instrument in jazz band..
Do I need to buy a music book?
No. You are supplied with a music book to use. It is part of the $50 class supplies donation that you pay at the start of the year.
Do I need to dress up for concerts?
Yes! Students need to wear proper concert attire for all concerts. Concert will be defined in the student handbook you will receive in the fall when school starts.
When are the concerts?
Check the calendar page that outlines all of our exciting events for this year!
What is jazz band?
Jazz ensemble meets after schools on Wednesday from 3:15-5pm. Please see Ms. Buresch for more information.
Is Ms. Buresch a mean teacher?
No, but I do have high expectations and expect students to practice at home and be on task during rehearsal.
How long does Ms. Buresch expect me to practice outside of class ?
Ms. Buresch expects that all students in all ensembles to practice at least 90 minutes per week. But the basic rule of thumb is: Don't practice until you get it right ...Practice until you can't get it wrong.
Welcome to Luther, Yellow Jackets!
