Luther is a proud supporter of Burbank Young Musicians (BYM)!
The Burbank Young Musicians is a new music outreach program in the city of Burbank. The purpose of the Burbank Young Musicians is to reach out to students in our community and to bring the opportunity for a free music education, through performing ensembles and student lead coaching.
The initial idea to start the BYM was sparked by Will Alvarado when he launched the Burbank Summer Symphony in the Summer of 2015. The Burbank Summer Symphony Premier in August was a great success, featuring 55 members from both the Burbank High School and John Burroughs High School band and orchestras.
After taking a few months to focus on marching season at the 2 high schools, Will was refreshed and ready to start season 2, the Burbank Winter Symphony, Through the BWS, Will brought his top student leaders to Luther Middle school to offer coaching, and a new ensemble to practice and perform with. Because of the interest level from the Luther Middle School Band members, Will reached out to John Muir Middle School and officially launched the BYM as a whole organization.
In the year since first launching the Burbank Summer Symphony, BYM has put on 4 concerts, including members from 4 different Instrumental Programs in our city! These four concert consisted of a fantastic Classical Summer Program, A Great Holiday Set, a fun Pops Concert and now full circle to our Year Anniversary concert.
BYM has launched a marching band, a jazz band, a string orchestra, three wind ensembles and five symphony orchestras.
